Flexible desk, dedicated desk or private office? A guide by team size

A practical decision guide to the differences between the three main coworking plans, who they suit and when to switch.

After you decide on a coworking space, the first question is usually "which plan?" The price gap may look big, but the real difference is how your working routine will take shape. The sections below summarise the questions to ask when choosing between plans.

Flexible desk: for people in the office a few days a week

A flexible desk (hot desk) lets you use a free desk in the shared area for the day. It is the most economical option for freelancers who come in two to four days a week, hybrid employees and travelling sales teams. A fee such as 4,900 TRY a month is not far from the internet and electricity cost of a home office, and on top you get community, coffee and meeting room credit. The downside is that you are not guaranteed the same desk every day and cannot leave personal items.

Dedicated desk: for people with a routine and for company founders

A dedicated desk means a desk reserved just for you, a lockable drawer and often 24/7 access. For people in the office every day, or those with a second monitor or special equipment, the productivity difference is clear. It also meets the business address need of newly formed companies, which is why founders often choose it. It costs about twice as much as a flexible desk, but the time spent looking for a desk drops to zero.

Private office: when teamwork and privacy are needed

Once your team passes three or four people, if you host client meetings often or handle sensitive data, a private office makes sense. A lockable room, branding to your taste and easy in-team communication come with it. The per-person cost is close to or slightly above a dedicated desk, but compared with renting your own office you avoid the deposit, service charges and set-up investment.

Five questions to help you decide

  • How many days a week will you be in the office? If fewer than three, a flexible desk may be enough.
  • Do you need to leave items or special equipment at your desk?
  • Is a business address and official notice handling essential for you?
  • How important is the privacy of client meetings and phone calls?
  • Will your team grow in the next six months?

When should you change plan?

If you have started queuing for the same desk on a flexible plan, it is time for a dedicated desk. If you keep swapping desks on a dedicated plan so teammates can sit together, it is time for a private office. At Yankı a plan change happens the same day, the difference is pro-rated and no new agreement is needed.

A quick look at budgets

Consider a team of ten: all on flexible desks needs roughly 49,000 TRY a month, all on dedicated desks 89,000 TRY and a private office around 130,000 TRY. If half the team works remotely two days a week a mixed set-up is also possible: five dedicated desks and five flexible desks balance the budget.
